Pet Carrier FAQ

Answers on MOQ, sampling, lead times, materials, compliance and shipping.

Short version: MOQ is 500 pieces per colourway, samples take 6-10 working days, bulk production takes 35-50 days after approval, inspection runs at AQL 2.5, and standard terms are T/T 30/70 FOB Xiamen. Everything below expands on that.

Pet Bag Types & Styles

What is the minimum order quantity for a pet bag program?

The standard MOQ is 500 pieces per colour for a managed program. The threshold is set by upstream material minimums such as fabric dye lots, zipper tape runs and printed label orders, so ordering below it usually raises unit cost rather than lowering risk.

What weight can a pet sling bag carry?

Slings are designed for small pets, with a practical ceiling around 6 kg for a well-specified medium size and lower for smaller sizes. Because a sling has a single load path, the ceiling should be conservative, verified by a loaded carry test and printed on the product.

How much does a rigid-shell pet carrier mould cost and who owns it?

Shell tooling typically runs USD 9,000-28,000 per size depending on cavity count, steel grade and surface finish. Ownership must be written down: either the buyer funds and owns the tool with a non-use undertaking, or the supplier funds it and recovers through a per-unit amortisation with a defined release figure.

What does wheels included actually specify?

Very little by itself. The specification that matters is wheel diameter, durometer, bearing type, housing material, rated load and whether the module is fixed or removable - all of which should appear on the brief.

What makes a pet bag a gym-style bag?

A duffel-derived silhouette, a separated sealed wet zone of 3-5 L, wipe-clean surfaces and hardware rated for daily cycling. Pet features - ventilation, tether, firm base - are present but the merchandising argument is fitness utility.

What is the MOQ for a wholesale pet cycling bag program?

MOQ is 500 pieces per colorway for standard cycling pet bag styles. Programs that require a custom bracket or a custom dyed fabric carry a higher first-order quantity because of tooling and dye-lot minimums.

What is the MOQ for wholesale pet family bags?

MOQ is 500 pieces per colorway. Because neutral shades dominate in this category, two shades are usually sufficient, keeping a first commitment at 1,000 pieces.

What is the MOQ for a wholesale pet bath bag?

The standard MOQ is 500 pieces per colorway. Special wet-pouch materials, trays, towels, or printed packaging may have separate minimums.

How much mesh area does a summer pet bag need?

Thirty-five to forty-five percent of total panel area, arranged so air enters one face and leaves another. Panels on opposing or adjacent faces outperform the same area clustered on one side.

What is the MOQ for a wholesale New Year pet bag?

MOQ is 500 pieces per colourway. Where dated and undated variants share a pattern and a fabric, the dated element is applied after cutting, so both can be covered under a single fabric commitment.

What is the minimum order quantity for a wholesale therapy dog bag?

MOQ is 500 pieces per colour on bag bodies. Programmes needing a second colourway usually take 500 of the main colour and vary trim on the balance rather than opening a second fabric minimum.

What is the MOQ for a special needs pet bag?

MOQ is 500 pieces per colour on the bag body, with separate and lower minimums on each support insert. Plan the first order as mostly bodies plus a modest quantity of each insert.

Material & Technology

Which fabric families belong in a pet bag material library?

Six: face cloth, lining cloth, mesh, board or sheet, foam or batting, and hardware with thread. Naming each layer lets a buyer negotiate each layer instead of accepting one unit price.

Is neoprene the same as wetsuit material?

Principally yes. The material is the same closed-cell foam family used in wetsuits, laminated with knit faces for use in bags and accessories. Grades used for bags are usually optimised for structure rather than for stretch.

What is the MOQ for a stain resistant pet bag programme?

MOQ 500 pieces per colourway, with price steps at 500, 1,000 and 3,000 pieces. Coated and laminated fabrics carry mill lot minimums that make smaller runs disproportionately expensive.

Should I upgrade the fabric or fix the seams for chew resistance?

Fix the seams first. Dogs chew edges rather than panel centres, so taped or inverted seams, recessed zippers and high-tenacity bindings reduce claims more per dollar than a shell upgrade. A mid-grade shell plus the full geometric package usually outperforms an upgraded shell with exposed edges.

How long is a pet bag test report valid?

Mechanically, the result does not expire, but commercially it ages. Most retail compliance teams treat mechanical test data as current for about 24 months and chemical screening data for 12-18 months, because restricted substance lists are revised continuously. The safer rule is to re-test whenever the material, the material supplier or the destination market changes, regardless of the date on the document.

Do all pet bags need CPSIA compliance?

No. Only products that are age graded or marketed for children twelve and under. A pet bag sold as a general-use adult accessory in a pet category sits outside the children's product rules.

Does a pet bag with LED lighting need FCC compliance?

Yes if it contains a circuit that generates radio frequency energy. Such products are unintentional radiators and are handled through a declaration supported by emission testing rather than through certification.

Is the national standard mandatory for pet bags?

Generally not. Pet bags sit outside compulsory coverage today, but you should verify the current regulatory list against your exact tariff line before every first shipment because coverage is extended over time.

Is textile approval the same as a product certificate for the bag?

No. Approval is lot-specific evidence about an input; a product certificate covers a finished article under a defined scheme. A bag inherits compliance from its fabrics, so the fabric package is the document that governs material risk.

Source: CTA: China Textile Approval for Pet Bag Fabrics

Is OEKO-TEX certification legally required to import pet bags into the EU?

No. It is a voluntary private standard. Legal requirements come from REACH and, depending on the article, from other EU product legislation. OEKO-TEX is widely requested by retailers because it screens many REACH-relevant parameters in one test.

Does carbon neutral mean the bag produced no emissions?

No. It means emissions within a stated boundary were reduced where practicable and the remainder offset through purchased credits. The claim is about netting, not elimination.

Why does a renewable pet bag quotation expire after a few weeks?

Because the feedstock price is tied to a virgin resin benchmark and to an allocation that is itself valid for only 15-30 days. A well-built quote names the benchmark, the capture date and a re-pricing trigger, usually a move of more than 5%.

Market & Business Strategy

Should a buyer trust published market growth rates?

Use them as direction rather than as forecast. The definitions differ between firms and the error bars are wide, so a buyer should plan inventory against a bottom-up channel estimate and use published rates only to sanity-check the direction.

What order size does an ODM programme require?

MOQ 500 pieces per colourway in our programmes, with samples in 6-10 working days and bulk production in 35-50 days after approval. Modifications at tier three or above extend the sample cycle rather than the MOQ.

What is the maximum practical weight for an express pet bag shipment?

Around 500 kg per consignment. Beyond that, air consolidation is usually cheaper per kilogram and the transit penalty is only a few days, so express stops being the efficient choice.

Do I need to file in every country where I sell?

Not immediately. File first where volume and enforcement value are highest, then use the twelve-month priority year to extend based on first-season sell-through. Filing everywhere at once is the most common way an IP budget is wasted.

Is a pet bag a consumer product under CPSC rules?

Yes. A pet bag imported for resale in the United States is a consumer product and the importer of record is responsible for certification and for furnishing the certificate on request. The supplier provides test data and declarations, but the certificate carries the importer's name.

What size should a pet bag hang tag be?

Plan for 90 by 50 mm minimum where the tag carries a two-language care block and a barcode. Single-language tags can go smaller, but legibility and quiet zone set the floor.

What is kaizen in pet bag manufacturing?

It is a working habit of making small, measured improvements to every repeat style. In wholesale pet bag programs it shows up as documented gains in cut yield, minutes per unit, first-pass yield and packing cube, recorded in a style revision log the buyer can request.

Source: Pet Bag Kaizen: Continuous Improvement in Bulk Production

What is material requirements planning in a pet bag order?

It is the process of working backwards from the ship date to identify every fabric, trim and packaging item, its lead time, its order multiple and its commit date, so that nothing is missing when cutting is scheduled.

What does one seeded pet bag actually cost to land?

Typically USD 16-41 landed per creator for a mid-spec unit once mailer, pack-out labour, postage and a replacement allowance are included. Budgeting the unit alone understates the program cost by roughly two thirds.

What is the minimum order for a chain store pet bag program?

Plan from MOQ 500 units per colourway. Below that level dye-lot consistency becomes unreliable, which chains treat as a defect rather than a variation. Trial volumes below the standard minimum can sometimes be arranged on a development basis with a cost premium.

Source: Pet Bag Target: Chain Store Supplier Requirements

What margin does a pet bag distributor expect?

Most distributors target 2.0-2.5x landed cost when selling to retail, with the retailer marking up again to shelf. Work backwards from the shelf price the category supports to set your FOB band, and quote three specifications at three price points so the buying desk can choose the one that lands inside its ladder.

What is the difference between a supplier and a producer in this category?

A producer runs lines for the category and can describe output share, line count and monthly units with reconciling numbers. An intermediary can present a broad catalogue but answers capability questions with adjectives. Ask for the registered business scope and compare the registered, quotation and export addresses.

More questions buyers ask

Can I mix several colours together to reach the 500-piece minimum order quantity?

No. The minimum is 500 pieces per colourway, not per order, because the binding constraint is the dye lot rather than the carton count. Sizes inside one colourway do pool, so 500 units across S, M and L in a single shade does qualify. To reach a multi-colour shelf cheaply, hold the body fabric constant and vary only the trim, or dye several shades in one mill run.

Does a repeat order need a fresh sample and a new approval round?

Not if the specification is unchanged. A first run takes 6 to 10 working days for the initial sample plus 3 to 5 working days per revision round; a repeat run on the same materials, the same colourway and the same approved sample skips that loop and enters the 35 to 50 day bulk window directly. Any change to fabric, hardware or colourway restarts sampling.

How long does a wholesale quotation stay valid before it has to be repriced?

Every quotation carries its own validity date printed on the document, because the price is built on a material cost and an exchange rate observed on a specific day. Inside that window the price stands regardless of movement. Outside it, we re-base against the current mill or index position and attach the evidence rather than changing the specification silently.

Can I nominate my own freight forwarder for FOB Xiamen shipments?

Yes, and most wholesale buyers do. Under Incoterms 2020 FOB Xiamen the buyer nominates the vessel and the forwarder while we clear export and place the goods on board; risk passes at that point. Send your forwarder details with the order so booking, cut-off and documentation align, and confirm who issues the bill of lading instructions.

Do you ship DDP, or only FOB and EXW trade terms?

FOB Xiamen is our default under Incoterms 2020. EXW is possible but leaves export clearance with the buyer, which is rarely workable for a first shipment. DDP can be discussed where a destination-side importer of record, a confirmed HS classification and a duty figure are available, because under DDP duty and taxes sit with the seller and must be underwritten.

What exactly does an FOB Xiamen price include, and what does it exclude?

It includes the goods, export packing, export clearance and loading on board the vessel at Xiamen. It excludes ocean freight, marine insurance, import duty, customs clearance, terminal and port charges at destination, and inland delivery. Under Incoterms 2020 risk transfers when the goods are on board, so everything after that point is on the buyer account.

What happens if the pre-shipment inspection fails at AQL 2.5?

It depends on the defect class. Critical defects stop the shipment and the affected quantity is re-made. Major defects above the AQL 2.5 acceptance number trigger a full sort and rework at origin, then a second inspection under ISO 2859-1. Minor defects above the limit are sorted where economics allow, or accepted with a written allowance and a price adjustment.

Can my first trial order be below 500 pieces per colourway?

Yes, but it is priced as a short run rather than as production volume. A first colourway at 200 or 250 units is a legitimate way to test a market, and the uplift is quoted line by line instead of hidden inside the unit price. Most buyers run one colourway with a balanced size split first, then add colourways once sell-through is known.

Which fabrics and hardware are held as standing stock at the production base?

600D polyester and 900D nylon in black and navy, air mesh and 3D spacer mesh, webbing in 25, 38 and 50 mm black, zipper tape in gauge 5, 8 and 10, PP honeycomb board from 3 to 10 mm, and black plastic buckles and D-rings. Dyed webbing, plated or branded hardware, metal pulls and certified recycled fabric are booked against the order.

How do I decide between a less-than-container load and a full container?

Compare your total cubic metres against the lane rate. Below roughly 15 cubic metres an LCL consolidation is usually cheaper because you pay only for the space used. Above the high teens a 20-foot container normally wins on cost per unit and avoids destination CFS charges. Freight rates are indicative planning bands, so ask your forwarder to quote both.

Still have a question? MOQ 500 pieces per colourway, samples in 6-10 working days, bulk production in 35-50 days under AQL 2.5 inspection.
